Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 1:57-66 Soap Luke 1:63-64
Imagine Gabriel's disappointment when Zachariah didn't believe his message. The name John means = "Jehovah has been gracious". Unfortunately, that grace was initially scorned by Zachariah. Nonetheless, we can't be too hard on Zachariah, since he eventually came around. But it go me thinking, how many times has God been gracious to me and I have discounted it or even denied it? Sometimes I fall into a trap of viewing life a little sceptically, not seeing the miraculous working of the Holy Spirit all around me.
How many times do I pray for something, and in my mind, I follow that prayer with reasons it probably won't be answered? I saw a direct connection to prayer today, since that is our primary communication with God. I determine to pray with faith, believing that God wants to show Himself strong again. Father, help me to recognize your working in my life and the lives of others. I promise to give you glory for all you do.

Help me to always be in AWE of Gods power and blessings. Sometimes we just go about life and fail to see how He is always answering prayers. I pray that I would always give him the glory and THANK HIM!!!!
ReplyDeleteBacktracking a little....... you know, John was an answer to a prayer. Elizabeth and Zechariah at some point had asked for a baby. I think there are things I fail to ask for at all because I think that it's just something that I need to "deal with". I need to ramp up my prayer life in regards to asking, believing, seeing and rejoicing. I have some changes to make. This is great!

You are what you speak and in this case Zachariah became of full believer of God. Not just a hearer of the word but a doer. I would imagine that after his time of silence he became a great spokesperson for God and we can probably say with full authority he always spoke with a new mouth that had no more disbelief in what God said. I love that!! I see so much confirmation throughout this chapter, first Mary and Elizabeth and now Zachariah confirmation of John’s ministry by giving him this not so common name at that time which means “God is gracious”. I am so thankful for that grace in my life. My application is that I will praise God at all times and know that even in the storms I surely be able to find Him there.
Also, I have a personal request Ladies, I have an older brother who is having some issues with his heart and is in the hospital in TX, he is in need of Salvation so pray that God will be able to work through this time in his life to bring him to the Cross and not only heal his heart but his life.
Be blessed :`)
What stood out to me today is, Zachariah and Elisabeth obeyed God and called the baby John. They were probably breaking tradition, custom, and "the way things have always been done". Just a little reminder to me that it's ok for some things to change from old ways if it is God's will. I hadn't really thought about the passage that way before.
ReplyDeleteI like that Christy! I couldn't help but chuckle when I read today's verses but couldn't put it in words. You said it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteZacharias could not speak but still supported Elizabeth on the name of the baby- reminds me of the scripture where the two become one. The application I take from this is that no matter how long you serve The Lord-it is better to follow his commandments because the joy of His blessings outweigh all else. We must persevere through this journey!!!
