Read: Luke 20:41-47
SOAP: Luke 20:46-47
The long robes trumpeted the wearer as a devout and noted scholar. These scribes sought out public opportunities to gain attention. They wanted display, prominence, and money. How is this different from unbelievers? These men who practically had the Bible memorized still had the same goals and ambitions that lost people had. This danger still occurs today - Christians who have absolutely no distinction from the unbelievers around them. Doing and seeking the very same things. Father, help me realize that my faith is about YOU, not about ME.
God can choose all kinds of vessels to spread His gospel and the tradition of men have always wished to silence the voice of God. I believe according to the scriptures that God has never looked on the outward appearance of a man but only the inward (l Samuel 16:7). He also chooses to look on the condition of the heart, whether they are of God or not and there are many who seem to have a very serious terminal condition which is self-righteousness and we all know that this is a result of pride. It is someone who refuses to let God teach them anything about Him even the simplest form of love by placing others needs above your own and it seems to fit our soap today. I must never let my motives be for Jesus become an outward show. Forgive me Lord when I commit these things and turn my heart back to You.
