Week 5_Monday

Good Morning Girls

Read Luke 5:1-11  SOAP Luke 5:6, 11

I like the fact that Jesus found Peter, James and John when they were working.  They were just ordinary men doing their jobs.  I wonder if he was specifically looking for fishermen that day.  I'm sure they possessed a certain work ethic and courage others did not.  Regardless, that will probably just remain speculation on my part.  However, these men left their livelihoods behind to follow Jesus.  Totally worth it!

It's interesting to note that they returned to their occupations after Jesus' death.  Before they realized Jesus had risen, they probably questioned everything.  After the Day of Pentecost in Acts, they finally left their professions behind to build Christ's church.  It caused me to wonder, will I allow the Holy Spirit to move freely enough in my life to drastically change it?  Like Ben mentioned in Sunday School yesterday, will God call me to something new and different if I begin to pray more earnestly?  I pray that my life now will be defined by God's calling.  Everything I do must be an effort to follow His leading.

  1. Good Morning Girls

Well I keep saying it but everything we are being taught at Phillips Chapel at this time is running right along with our bible study. Pastor Ben “sent out” messages have been speaking to my heart. I loved how Jesus sent out all of the disciples without anything food, clothing or their staff and it is basically saying the same thing today in our Soap scriptures. To forsake all and follow Jesus doesn’t always have to be your home, money or status, it could be whatever distracts you from following His kingdom and studying His Word……. kids, sports, job, friends, family, fear, doubt, worry…..etc…

The key word for me in our scriptures today was that they obeyed the voice of the Lord which is always greater than our sacrifice. Much like how Peter made sure that Jesus knew it was going to be a great sacrifice to have pull their nets back out and place them in the water again and especially where there were no fish. I think after that day it became a lot easier for all of the disciples to say “Yes Lord, we will go where you send” especially Peter. I know the Holy Spirit gave Peter an ability to do things he did with boldness, but I think this experience also taught him to believe the word greater than ever. Lord may I never take your word for granted and let it fall on deaf ears, let it settle deep in my heart so that when you say “Go” I will hear and obey.

Also, please remember to keep Louise in your prayers for her surgery Tuesday; she is such a sweet lady with great faith in the Lord.
Have a good day ladies :`)

  2. I pray that I will always be awestruck by God's power and be willing to leave everything behind and follow him like Peter did. Bro Ben's messages have been tugging at my heart that I know I need to do SOMETHING!!!!! Please pray for me that I'll know what that SOMETHING is.

  3. It is truly amazing that the same message comes to us from all directions. I read the scripture this morning and was brought to tears, especially verse 11. I then thought about how that Simon and the other fishermen were cleaning their nets. They were done for the day and had put away their tools. Jesus told them to cast out the nets. It was surely an "inconvenience" and probably seemed to be for no reason. Thank the Lord, Simon had faith to do it anyway. How many things do I avoid because they seem inconvenient and probably won't amount to anything anyway? I don't know that answer, but I am going to try to put this in my heart to be cautious. Obey the Lord through it all.
