Week 8_Thursday
Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 16:19-24 SOAP Luke 16:24
It's good to be reminded of the consequences of unrepentance. This life will ultimately end beginning an eternal life elsewhere. This story must cause us to reach the lost now, knowing what awaits them if we don't. John MacArthur says, "The lost will suffer an accusing conscience fed by undying memories of a lost opportunity and permanent irreversible separation from God and everything good." Father, help me do everything I can to prevent people from this suffering.

Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 16:16-18 SOAP Luke 16:17
So many things in life are fluid and change. So many people are undependable and fail us. But God and His Word remain contant amidst all the change. It is so comforting to know that we can depend on Him through the chaos of life. Father, help me to rest in the promise of your unchanging Word.

Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 16:13-15 SOAP Luke 16:13
This passage is so true - we can't serve God and money at the same time. It's exhausting to keep up with the latest things, especially electronics! There is such a freedom in forsaking that idea of having the newest things. Women are particularly plagued with this, but seem to be in denial about it. Shopping and obsessing over pretty things is almost a rite of passage into womanhood. But try as we may to justify this thinking, it simply isn't Christlike. Money is a wonderful tool that we can use to build God's kingdom. We can also use it to obsess over ourselves or collect nice things. Father, give me the fortitude to use my resources for your glory, not wasting it on myself.

Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 16:1-12 SOAP Luke 16:10
This passage makes me think of the subject of integrity. God has given each of us resources - time, money, talent, etc. How we use those resources reveals our faithfulness to Him. I struggle with time management and find that I am always running out of it. But the faithful steward will strive to use every moment for a beneficial action - be it service, teaching, study, worship, etc. God has been challenging me to take my "zone out" time and turn it into something beneficial - thereby being a better steward. I am going to take this squandered time and spiritually use it.
Sorry I forgot the Friday post!

Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 15:17-24 SOAP Luke 15:20, 24
God rejoices when we come to the end of ourselves. Although we see this broken state as pitiful or pathetic, God sees the contrite heart as finally prepared to receive Him. This man's sin was great, but the Father's love was greater. I realize that humility and utter dependance on Him is what God wants from me. This passage reminds me of the song His Love is Greater by Lordsong.

Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 15:8-10 SOAP Luke 15:9
A couple of points here. First, the sinners with whom Jesus was associating were extremely valuable to Him. Just like the coin worth a day's wages, these people were of great value. Sometimes we forget how much God truly loves and values us. Our relationship with Christ is designed to be one of closeness and love. The other truth I noticed here is the various methods God uses to bring lost souls to himself. He can use a friend, a stranger, tragedy, success, or the simple hearing of His Word to bring us to the end of ourselves, acknowledging our need for Him. I'm so grateful for these parables that are wonderful reminders of God's love for us!

Week 7_Monday
Good Morning Girls
Read Luke 15:1-7 SOAP Luke 15:7
Jesus left the ninety-nine sheep to find the one that was lost. I think this models the focus for the sheep in the church. They must focus on reaching the lost, not stay within the comfort of the fold. The Pharisees were critical of Jesus' socialization with sinners, but he did this for a specific purpose. When we find ourselves spending time with sinners - may we always focus on the intention. We intend to win them to Christ. That goal will drive conversations and activities in a very different direction.

I hate to keep referencing the same book, but I love the explanation Kyle Idleman gives of this passage.
Jesus is honest with the crowd about what it may cost to follow him. He lets them know that following him may mean offending your parents or grandparents. It may mean being cut out of the will or even cut off from the family. I've talked to people who put off following Jesus because they don't want to hurt their parents' feelings. Your brother or sister won't know what to make of your decision follow and they may distance themselves from you. And Jesus is saying, "Yep, that may be part of it. And if you're not willing to choose me over your family, then you are not ready to follow, and maybe it's time for you to go on home."
Some teachers have tried to soften these words of Jesus by saying they were only meant for a select few who would specifically be chosen to represent him. But it says, "large crowds." And when Jesus speaks to the "large crowds" he doesn't address a specific segment. Did you notice the word he used in verse 26? Jesus says, "If anyone..." That's a fairly inclusive word. Jesus isn't laying out the entrance requirements for the twelve disciples. He is not talking to a seminary class. He's not addressing a group of pastors and missionaries. He's not just talking to kids who grew up in the church and professed their faith when they were ten. What Jesus says is true for anyone who wants to follow him.
