Week 5_Wednesday

Good Morning Girls

Read Luke 5:17-26  SOAP Luke 5:20, 22-24

I sometimes find Jesus' wording to be humorous, as in the case of verse 22.  It's as if he's trying to get the Pharisee simply to use their deductive reasoning.  If Jesus had power to heal, he certainly had power to forgive sins.  Jesus had a knack for addressing the real issue every time.  In this case, the real issue was the lack of faith from the Pharisees.

I found myself directing Jesus' question to myself, "Why do you question in your heart?"   The same Jesus that healed this man and forgave his sins is the same Christ who lives in me!  He is omnipotent, able to accomplish anything I can imagine and more.  So why do I question him at times?  Go ahead and ask God.  He can handle it.  Father, help me to live in faith, trusting your power to do amazing things.

  1. Good Morning Girls
Jesus saw the faith of the man who believed he could be healed of his disease if he could just only get to Jesus. His friends went to great lengths and tore off somebody’s roof to get to this healing but he received so much more, the forgiveness of sins. Yet in the midst of all this wonder and power being displayed there were the scoffers, the unbelievers sent in by the devil to discredit Jesus before the people. What a great job Jesus did showing deity as the Son of Man which identified and glorified his position with the Father.
I would hope that in my life I would go as far as these men did to get to Jesus so that my sins may also be uncovered and forgiven, that any cost would never be too great to allow His peace in my life. These scriptures are a comfort and a soothing balm to me for there is no other like the Lord Jesus. The creator of my life who has redeemed me from sin by His giving up His life for me. Like the saying goes, “He died for me and now I live for Him” and not only do I live in peace I am to go to others and bring them into His kingdom and see that they receive this same comfort and joy. He doesn’t ask a lot of us for all the blessings we receive from Him, just go out and make disciples of all nations.
Lord may it begin with me.

  2. I just wanted to thank you all for getting this bible study going. Every single day the Word has spoke to my life and made a difference. I am so humbled and amazed. Ray and I are going through a trying time with his mother. Decisions we have made and how we have chosen to react is starkly different thanks to what the Holy Spirit has revealed to us through his word. The way I have seen people in the past week or 2 and interacted with them has been very different and I have been so blessed by it. Thank you all and praise The Lord. Yes, I know this isn't in correlation with today's scriptures, but I needed to share.

  3. Like Susie, I was struck by the great lengths that these friends took to lay their friend at the feet of Jesus. Not only did they have faith, they also took action. My prayer today was that I would have the same sense of urgency of laying my friends at Jesus' feet whether their needs are physical or spiritual.

  4. Like everyone, his friends really impressed me. They didn't give up when they saw the crowds. Instead, they found a way around it. No, it wasn't the easiest way. Yes, I imagine it was a huge inconvenience. Yet, they would not give up until their friend could be seen by Jesus. What awesome friends! Lord, allow me to see the needs of others and to be that kind of friend.
