Week 7_Monday

Good Morning Girls

Read Luke 7:1-10  SOAP Luke 7:7, 9

Faith is the key here.  The centurion expresses his faith in Jesus, not only as able to heal his servant.  He expresses faith in Jesus' deity, as one with the authority to heal by a simple word.  This is what Jesus was looking for from all the people who witnessed his healing.  He wanted their faith in who He was.

Imagine if we had the same response to Jesus the centurion did.  "Jesus, you only have to say the word for my marriage to be healed."  "Jesus, at your word, my child will stop wandering from you."  Jesus, only speak and my financial hardships will be relieved."  How often do we live life in a cycle of faithlessness, not believing Jesus is powerful enough to accomplish things like this?  I am changing my speech today, deliberately voicing my faith in Christ to accomplish anything I ask.

  1. Good Morning Girls

Here we are on 7th week of Luke, it has gone so fast and I have enjoyed every single moment of it. I feel blessed that I have been allowed to study His word and today we are learning about faith. Now you could be thinking ok, what is this thing called faith? Faith simply believes in something that often can’t be seen or touched. If we look at it in the natural we can see that we place our faith every time we order a product that it will be delivered as promised. Even something as simple as going to a restaurant and ordering food, we are in good faith believing in something that we have not yet seen.
But that's a natural faith but in the heavenly realm we find out that faith in the bible is choosing to believe in God and trusting Him in all situations. Believing that He can do what He says that He can do. Believing that His word is final in all things, believe, believe, believe!!! The bible says in Hebrews that faith is substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). So believing in something that you cannot see is faith.

This centurion was not just a person who one day up and decided to have faith. No, in fact he had done many things to help the Jews, even as far as building a synagogue for them to have a place to practice their faith (Luke 7:5). Even though he completed all these works his faith was what got the deed done for he trusted in God’s spoken word. It’s that simple and it’s the same for us today as it was for him; we have the Word of God right in front us, all we need to do is read it, believe it, and live it, may we all have such simple centurion faith.

  2. I realize that I am lacking after studying todays scriptures. I need to pray EXPECTANTLY!!!!! Having faith in knowing that my prayers WILL be answered in some way. It may not be my way but I need to expect that God will provide a way. I find myself just praying kind of in a hum drum fashion and thinking yea yea yea I know that he will answer but really knowing and believing that HE WILL. Sheds a whole new light on it for me. The Roman Officer had faith that if Jesus would just say the word it would be so. Please Lord help me to expect an answer to my prayers.

  3. Brandy - I too was struck by the centurion's humble spirit, but faith-filled heart. Doug and I have been praying for some clear guidance on a new business venture and yet I find myself using my "worldly wisdom" to calculate as soon as I finish praying. Lord, help me to pray KNOWING and BELIEVING that you will answer all prayers.

  4. what a beautiful example of true faith. He knew just the words spoken could heal the sick. He didn't even need to see with his own eyes. So, many times I want to see the fruit of my prayers. What a wonderful example of what faith is meant to be.
