Week 5_Monday

Good Morning Girls

Read Luke 13:1-9  SOAP  Luke 13:7-9

The Christian life is destined to bear fruit.  When we fail to bear fruit, we are not living out God's purpose for our lives.  How patient God has been with us.  He has every right to "cut us down" and remove us from influence.  Instead, He plants new soil around us, giving us another opportunity to bear fruit.  One commentator called this a, "Changing of methods in the divine treatment of the impenitent in order to freshen spiritual culture."  To be honest, that scares me!  I don't want to find out what God has to resort to so that I will finally bear fruit.  May I be fruitful now, discipling others as is His intended purpose.

Fruit that is nice, clean and has a shining glow to it is something you want to take part in. But how many have smelled rotten, stinky, fruit that has turned dark and soft and with just a whiff you want to gag! Well, if you are calling yourself a Christian and not being Christ-like, guess what? That is what people are seeing and smelling on you. Have you ever heard a skunk say “Hey, I really stink” No and you won’t either because if it could talk, it would probably tell you it thinks that it smells great. It might even think it smells as good as a pretty flower. I might be able to tell that skunk it really doesn’t smell like a flower but I also have to be careful because I can make it really mad and they’ll puff up and spray me good. And in time if I hang with them for very long, I might begin to think I am a flower too.

Okay, that was just an fun illustration, but you know what could be worse than being a skunk thinking it smelled good? would be getting removed from doing God’s work. Look at verse 7 Jesus said, “Why does it use up the ground?” or I could ask myself “why am I wasting space on the pew?” OUCH!!! I need to get to work and not be like the little skunk thinking it was just another pretty flower set there for all to look at. I don’t want the Master to come looking for fruit on my vine and find none. Now is my time to bring others to His Kingdom, to discover his word and share it with others to multiply, to make disciples and not to waste the space He has given me.
