These women that wept for Jesus never understood the destruction that awaited their city. The mourning and weeping was just beginning. Jerusalem's demise was around the corner. Would the same women continue to follow and trust Christ during this time? It made me wonder if I too will continue to follow Christ through uncertainty and suffering. Our country is experiencing great turmoil now. Will I continue to follow Christ no matter what happens?
Good Morning Girls
ReplyDeleteLarge crowds followed Jesus all the time and His death was no different and at this time funerals in themselves drew a lot of people and it was certain that on this day there would be one. These women were probably professional mourners which was acceptable, for it was a common custom for the Jews at that time. But, I can also think that there were some true mourners that were also in that crowd, such as Mary, Martha and as often called “the other Mary” and many others who followed Him. Jesus told the women not to weep for Him but for themselves, for if they weren't going to receive Him now when He was there among them, then why would they once He was gone, (for prophetically more days of sorrow were ahead for Israel). I think my application here would be to rejoice in the fact that He was willing to give His life for all of mankind. That I am redeemed because His death set me free and now I should be out telling others about Him instead of letting people pass me by everyday on their way to an everlasting hell.
